Alfredo sauce is a classic Italian pasta sauce, full of cheesy rich flavors. Our vegan Alfredo recipe is cashew-based, 100% vegan, and extremely delicious. Not only is our recipe dairy free, it’s also a lot healthier than traditional Alfredo sauce.
With all that cream and cheese, 1 cup of traditional Alfredo sauce has around 24 grams of fat and only 4 grams of protein. Our recipe on the other hand has only 15 grams of fat and over double the protein with around 11 grams per cup.
Making it Cheesy
Cheese is a huge part of what makes Alfredo taste the way it does. We found we were really missing that same cheesy flavor in our vegan Alfredo until we added some nutritional yeast. Nutritional yeast helps mimic the flavor of the parmesan cheese and further adds a nutty and salty flavor profile to your sauce.
Start with one tablespoon and keep adding more in a tablespoon at a time until you get your desired flavor (we use 2 tablespoons in this recipe).
